Clear PVC can be fitted as a complete roof, as transparent side walls with windows, or by combining an opaque roof with transparent walls all round. Each solution is made to measure according to the dimensions of the structure.

Transparent roof, transparent walls, or a combination

A fully transparent roof lets in plenty of natural light and gives an open feel, much valued for weddings and tents for events with a view. However, a clear PVC roof exposed to the sun heats up more than an opaque one. That is why many customers choose to combine an opaque, usually white, roof with transparent walls and windows, together with good ventilation. This combination is also common on duo-pitch tents.

How the transparent panels are made

Clear PVC is supplied in 100-metre rolls that are 1.4 to 1.6 metres wide, narrower than opaque PVC. Because of this, larger roof or wall panels are welded together from several widths of roll until the required size is reached. This welding follows the exact measurements of each tent.

Replacement covers and adding transparent walls

If you already have your own structure, at Plastold we manufacture transparent replacement covers or additional enclosures from measurements, a drawing or the old cover, keeping the existing fixing system. It is also possible to add transparent walls to a tent that previously only had opaque ones, provided the correct measurements are taken.

Care and maintenance of clear PVC

Transparent PVC includes UV protection and anti-mould treatment, though it still needs proper care to keep its clarity. We recommend cleaning it with water and a mild soap, avoiding abrasive products, and storing it dry, without sharp folds that could damage the material. Frequently asked questions

Does a transparent-roof tent get very hot?

A transparent roof lets in more solar radiation than an opaque one, so it can build up more heat in summer. That is why many customers prefer an opaque roof combined with transparent walls, together with suitable ventilation.

Does condensation form on clear PVC?

As with any enclosed structure, sudden temperature changes can cause condensation on the inside face of the PVC. Ventilating the space and avoiding fully closing the tent in humid conditions helps to reduce it.

Does transparent PVC turn yellow over time?

The material includes UV protection, but prolonged sun exposure and improper cleaning or storage can affect its clarity over time. Proper care, as described in our blog, helps keep it in good condition.

Can I add transparent walls to my current tent?
