How to Clean and Maintain Your Tent's PVC Cover

The fabric is the part of the tent that suffers most: sun, rain, dust, and repeated setting up and taking down. With simple maintenance it can last many more years and, above all, arrive at every event looking impeccable. This is the routine we recommend to our customers. When it is beyond repair, we make replacement tent covers for any brand of structure.

Step-by-step cleaning

  1. Brush off leaves, dust and debris dry, using a soft brush or a soft broom.

  2. Wash with lukewarm water and a neutral soap, using a sponge or a soft-bristle brush.

  3. Pay extra attention to drip points and seams, where dirt tends to build up.

  4. Rinse thoroughly with plenty of clean water until all the soap is gone.

  5. Leave it to dry completely before folding or storing the cover.

What to avoid

  • Solvents, petrol, acetone or abrasive products: these damage the PVC coating.

  • Scouring pads and stiff brushes, which scratch the surface and make it get dirty again sooner.

  • A pressure washer held too close or used at high pressure, especially on seams and welds.

  • Dragging the cover along the ground while setting up or taking down the structure.

  • Folding it away damp: this is the most common cause of mould and unpleasant odours.

Mould and stains

Our covers have an anti-mould treatment, but mould does not grow on the PVC itself, it grows on the dirt that settles on it. That is why the best prevention is to clean it after every season and always store it dry. If stains appear, clean them as soon as possible with water and a neutral soap: the longer they are left, the harder they are to remove.

How to store the cover

  • Clean and completely dry.

  • Folded without always creasing along the same lines, or rolled up if the size allows it.

  • In a dry, ventilated place, protected from sunlight and rodents.

  • With no weight on top and raised off the ground, for example on a pallet.

  • Labelled with its measurements and position to speed up the next set-up.

Regular inspection

Use every cleaning session to check the welds and seams, eyelets, zips, clear windows and the points where it fixes to the structure. A small cut is easy to repair with a PVC patch if caught early; left alone, the wind turns it into a tear.

When it is time to replace the cover

  • The coating is cracked or peeling and the underlying fabric shows through.

  • There are leaks that a one-off repair cannot fix.

  • The cover has lost its flexibility and creases or breaks when folded.

  • It no longer looks presentable for your customers.
