PVC tent fabric on rolls: widths, lengths and how to order

PVC tent fabric on rolls comes in 100 m lengths. The width depends on the type: 2.5 to 3 m for opaque PVC and 1.4 to 1.6 m for transparent PVC. To order, you need five things: fabric type, weight, colour, width and linear metres (or number of rolls).

Roll length and width

Length: 100 m per roll.
Opaque PVC width: between 2.5 and 3 m, depending on the reference.
Transparent PVC (clear PVC) width: between 1.4 and 1.6 m, depending on the reference.

650 or 850 g/m²: which weight to order

Our fabrics are PVC-coated polyester, in weights of 650 and 850 g/m². Our house fabrics are OPTEX white at 850 g/m² and COTEX white at 680 g/m².

Heavier (850 g/m²): more body and strength; usually chosen for permanent or wide-span roofs and for industrial use.
Lighter (650 g/m²): less weight per metre and easier to handle; usually chosen for tents that are put up and taken down often.

Types and colours

Opaque: blocks light. Available in several colours.
Translucent: lets diffused light through without being see-through.
Transparent (clear PVC): for windows, enclosures and transparent tents.
Stretch: elastic fabric for bedouin or stretch tents.

All our fabric has anti-mould treatment and UV protection, is waterproof and resists oils and greases.

T2 fire class

Our fabrics are class T2 under the European standard EN 15619, tested to EN 14115 by AITEX (reports 2024AN2176 and 2024AN2177). If the roll will be made into tents used by the public, ask for the report that matches the reference you are buying with your order: you will be asked for it at every event.

How to work out the metres you need

The basic calculation has three steps: how many panels fit across the width, how long each panel is, and how many metres they add up to.

Illustrative example with round figures (not a recipe): covering an area of 9 × 20 m with opaque fabric 2.5 m wide.

Panels: 9 m ÷ 2.5 m = 3.6. Round up: 4 panels. Together they give 10 m, which leaves room for weld overlaps and edge finishes.
Length of each panel: 20 m plus an allowance for hems and finishes. In this example we assume 0.5 m, so 20.5 m.
Linear metres: 4 × 20.5 m = 82 m. That fits on one 100 m roll, with 18 m left over for repairs.

For your own job, measure the real surface (on pitched roofs, along the slope, not on the floor plan), confirm the exact width of the reference and apply the overlap and hem allowances of your own fabrication method. If you are making a series of pieces, plan them all together to get the most out of each roll.

Handling and storing rolls

A roll weighs much more than it looks. You can estimate the fabric weight by multiplying width × length × fabric weight: for example, 2.5 m × 100 m × 0.85 kg/m² ≈ 213 kg, not counting the core and packaging. So:

Plan how you will unload: a forklift, or a bar through the core and several people.
Do not drag the roll or drop it on an edge.
Store it in a dry, covered place, away from direct sun and heat sources, in its packaging until you use it.
Do not put heavy objects on it. With transparent PVC, avoid folds and pressure, which leave marks.
