When the swimming season ends, a winter cover protects the pool from leaves, dust and sunlight until spring. The water stays cleaner, less algae grows and reopening takes less work and fewer chemicals.

Hotel, campsite and community pools are often large or unusually shaped, so the cover is best made to measure. This guide explains which fabric to use, how the cover is fixed, how to measure and what to be clear about before you order.

What a winter cover does

  • Keeps dirt out: leaves, dust and sand stay on the cover, not in the water.

  • Slows algae: an opaque fabric blocks the light algae need.

  • Reduces evaporation and keeps out dirty rainwater.

The fabric we use

We make the covers from opaque PVC-coated polyester, 650 or 850 g/m², waterproof, UV-protected and treated against mould. The 850 g/m² fabric stands up better to heavy use and wind; the 650 g/m² fabric is lighter and easier to put on and take off each season.

For large pools, the cover is made by welding several widths together to the exact size. Several colours are available; see the PVC fabric sample book.

Rainwater: water collects on a waterproof cover. It is usually removed with a small pump. If you prefer, we can look at adding a microperforated mesh area so it drains; mention it when you ask for a quote.

How the cover is fixed

  • Eyelets all round: reinforced, for elastic tensioners and anchors in the coping or the ground.

  • Straps and buckles: to tension the cover to fixed points around the pool.

  • Water tubes or weights: where you can't anchor into the ground, laid along the edge of the cover.

Ground anchors are fitted by your maintenance team or installer. Tell us which system you will use and the eyelet spacing, and we make the cover to suit.

How to measure the pool

  • Shape: rectangular, with a Roman step, oval or freeform.

  • Inside length and width of the pool, edge to edge.

  • Overlap: how far the cover should extend on each side over the coping, up to the anchor points.

  • Obstacles: ladders, handrails, skimmers, lights or showers near the edge.

  • Irregular shapes: a dimensioned sketch with diagonals, or a template. Send photos from several angles too.

An old cover that fits well can also serve as a pattern.

Care and storage

Remove leaves and standing water during the winter. When you take it off in spring, clean it with water and mild soap, let it dry completely and store it loosely folded in a dry place, away from rodents. More tips in how to clean and maintain PVC covers.

What to send us for a quote

  • Number of pools and the shape of each.

  • Pool dimensions and the overlap you want on each side.

  • The fixing system you will use.

  • Preferred colour and weight (650 or 850 g/m²).

  • Photos of the pool and its surroundings.

  • Delivery town and the date you need it.

Order in good time: manufacturing time is confirmed with each quote and, once the goods leave, transport across Europe takes about a week. If you prefer to make it yourself, we also supply the fabric on 100 m rolls.

Frequently asked questions

Which fabric weight should I choose?

850 g/m² for large pools, windy sites or heavy use; 650 g/m² if a light, easy-to-handle cover matters most.

Can you make it for a freeform pool?

Yes, from a dimensioned sketch or a template of the shape.

Have your measurements ready? Send them with a few photos of the pool and we will prepare a written quote.
